About Me
I have a PhD and spent over 25 years working as a geologist in the energy sector based in and around London. I've completed a year-long course in City of London history and ‘graduated’ from the Tour Guiding course at the University of Westminster with Distinction in May 2020. The final months of the course gave me key skills in presenting using Zoom.
I've always had a huge enthusiasm for history and linking the past to contemporary environment and events. However, I had to leave it behind at school to pursue science and maths A levels - history was relegated to weekends and holidays until 2018! A “light bulb” moment during a guided tour of Wimbledon Tennis brought a sudden realisation that I wanted to become a tour guide.
I have undertaken regular public speaking since my time as a research student and have maintained close contacts with academia; publishing and editing papers. This valuable experience has been channelled into my specialist talks. These provide access to tales and views of Westminster and the City and are tasters to themed walking tours in and around London.
My passions include geography, social history, architecture, reading and walking. I have included these interests in a series of eclectic history talks which have been well received by various clients including U3A, Probus and WI. I have given over 150 talks to audiences of over 7000 in the past few years - now all face to face. I have recently acquired first aid certification and my bespoke walking tours explore the quirky, little known side of London in a memorable and fun way!
Let's celebrate London together!
