Here's a thing - King Thutmose II's tomb has just been found in an exciting discovery near Luxor. He lived 3540 years ago and a beloved Westminster landmark dates from that time during the reign of his son Thutmose III!

One of a pair of obelisks created near modern-day Cairo, they were moved to Alexandria during 1000 years later when Cleopatra was Queen of Egypt. In the early 1800's one obelisk was given to the UK to thank the British for military support (sea battles won by Admiral Nelson and xxx are celebrated on the friezes on Nelson's Column). Since the late 1800s, the London "needle" has been located on the banks of the River Thames flanked by two sphinxes whilst the other is in New York. A time capsule beneath the monument contains a Bradshawe Railway Guide, photographs of English women, hairpins, cigars, and tobacco pipes, as well as a portrait of Queen Victoria!
