Southwark Cathedral - A Tudor Christmas

Christians have worshipped at Southwark Cathedral for over 1000 years. Originally a small convent, it became an Augustine Priory, then a parish church and finally, in 1905, the Cathedral for the newly created Diocese of Southwark which serves the whole of London south of the river.

On 28th November 2024 at 7pm, “A Tudor Christmas by Candlelight” with historians Alison Weir and Siobhan Clarke will take you back to yuletide in Tudor times. We think of the Victorian era as giving us most Christmas traditions but this talk will highlight that the Tudors enjoyed carol-singing, present-giving, mulled wine, savoury mince pies and roast turkey dinners, some 500 years ago. Despite the turbulent times 500 years ago the twelve days of Christmas in mid-winter were a time of joyous celebrations with the Lord of Misrule in charge of sometimes, raucous entertainments!

Tickets are £16 and here is the link to find out more.
